Frequently
Asked Questions
Why should I choose you
over some other high-tech writing outfit?
I write persuasive and explanatory copy
for some fairly complex software products and services. If you
want to train someone to learn about these topics and technologies,
you can certainly invest the time. However, I come pre-loaded
with 13+ years experience writing persuasive selling copy for enterprise
software and Internet technologies. (Actually 25+ years in the
technology industry -- if you count my nerdy youth spent programming
and fiddling with Apple II computers, and my CD-ROM development
days on the PC).
It's rare to find someone with copywriting,
marketing, and specific technology skills. Pick me! Pick me!
Are long-distance work arrangements
productive?
Yes. I have clients in Darmstaddt,
Germany; Stockholm, Sweden; Islandia, New York; Massapequa Park,
NY; New York, New York; Cupertino, California; Pleasanton, California;
Stamford Connecticut; Dallas, Texas; Scottsdale, Arizona; and
elsewhere.
I complete top-notch work on deadline,
and I'm always just a phone call or email away. (949) 515-3510, dunn@qualitywriter.com.
Collaboration technology is making
the process even easier. With shared whiteboards, voice over IP,
common calendaring, automated alerts, instant messaging, and presence-aware
applications it's getting super easy to assemble teams, communicate,
and get things done.
Do you have work samples I can check out?
Click any of the client logos on the portfolio page. Or, send me an email asking about
specific topics or written formats. Much of my recent work is
not on the site. dunn@qualitywriter.com
How do we hire you?
Call me - (949) 515-3510. Email
me. Let's discuss your projects. If you have an NDA or contract
that you need me to look over and sign, I'll do it. I work as a contractor on a 1099 basis, so there are numerous tax and administrative advantages.
What kinds of projects do you prefer?
I'm pretty hot for technology in general, so anything goes. But
that said, I do like doing case studies or success stories. They're
quick and clean, and I'm good at digging up ROI during interviews.
Newsletters are a blast. I also enjoy white papers, brochures,
and data sheets. I'm getting into
direct mail copywriting, too.
Would you work with our advertising
or PR agency?
Yes. Some of my best customers are ad agencies, and I often work
with agencies when involved with large companies.
Do you edit drafts that are in
progress?
Yes. I often update, resurrect, edit and proof drafts for clients.
I can clean up poorly structured documents, edit for flow, change
copy for different audiences, simplify content for non-technical
readers, punch-up selling language, and create more powerful headlines
and subheads.
Do you handle design?
Nope. I collaborate well with designers, but the design itself
is best left to the experts. I do make recommendations about layout
because I have a lot experience with numerous formats and the
kinds of graphics that go into the finished piece (like charts,
screenshots, and schematics).
I do have a designer that I work with on a regular basis. He's great. Call or email, and we can talk about that. (949) 515-3510, dunn@qualitywriter.com.
What if we have a project with a short deadline?
Check with me. My schedule varies by the week. Sometimes I can
pull it off. Sometimes not.
Do you travel to meet clients?
Yes. I like to meet the people I work with, and in-person creative
sessions are often invaluable. I must say that I don't do
this as often as I'd like to, though. It's hard to find the time.
